Many of us are excited to see any advancements in the research surrounding Alzheimer’s disease. Although this recent study shows progress and a huge step in the right direction, it is not a cure – although it shows great potential for delaying the progression of the disease. CBD can have beneficial effects on inflammatory reactions in the body – and Alzheimer’s is a neuro inflammatory disease.
The Medical College of Georgia in partnership has correlated proof that CBD can reduce plaque in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Alzheimer’s is the main cause of dementia. When plaque is overproduced in the brain, microglia cells – which are in charge of cleaning it – do not perform as they should. CBD appears to normalize the cells’ levels and functions which improve brain cognition.
The goal of this research is to limit the damage and delay the progression of the disease. Future research will benefit from this study and hopefully speed up our search for a cure!
