KidneyX is a public–private partnership between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) founded to “accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases.”  In the past few years there has been great progress toward an artificial kidney which can not only replicate the high quality of life seen in kidney transplant recipients, but also spare them from needing to take immunosuppressants.
