It’s a challenge to find speakers today who have the cadence to draw you in with their story-telling, leading you to wonder what they will say next. Many years ago, Johnny Cash was a guest on a show when he was asked to relay his telling (not singing) of “Ragged Old Flag” which he wrote in 1975 – and in my opinion he gave the ultimate spellbinding rendition, complete with the perfect tone of voice, cadence, and subtle emotion which led me to not only hang on every word but also wish we could see a country who could emulate this pride in its story. Johnny was born in 1932 and lived 71 years until passing in 2003 due to complications from diabetes. This telling of Ragged Old Flag is a great reminder of how much this generation had to say about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
