Australia study: How Vitamin D can help Prevent Dementia

Summer Sun is just one way to get the Vitamin D you need, but while it can be very good for you, sometimes that can prove difficult when you also need to protect your precious skin as well. There are many foods that are rich in vitamin D such as salmon, egg yolks, oranges and more.  Dementia ranked as the second leading cause of death in Australia in 2019, and the University of South Australia has completed a study showing the effects of vitamin D deficiency on dementia. Up to 17% of dementia cases could’ve been prevented simply by maintaining normal levels of vitamin D. An incredibly interesting study, it’s worth the read HERE and the trip to the store for vitamin D supplements. Be sure to try your best to keep vitamin D at the top of the list in your daily diet as much as possible, and of course consult your Doctor to be sure there are not conflicting issues with any medications you may take.

** Overall, dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia.  Dementia was the leading cause of death of Australians aged 85 and over, and leading cause of death for Australian women aged 75 and over in 2019.  You can read more in this Australian Government link
