Old-Fashioned Coca Cola Soda Cake

Ingredients
  

For Cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 6 tbsp Coca-Cola
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F (175C) and grease a 9"x13" baking pan
  2. In a saucepan, combine the Coca-Cola, cocoa, and butter. Bring to a boil, then set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Add the boiled mixture, mixing well.
  4. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla, mixing until smooth
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan
  6. Bake for about 30 minutes
  7. For the frosting, combine butter, cocoa, Coca-Cola, and vanilla in a saucepan, bring to a boil. Then mix in a powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Pour the frosting over the warm cake
