Ways Seniors Connect with Grandchildren Remotely

While the link below has several good ideas, there are a few trajectories we want to add which can bring an entirely different slant to the ideas of connecting grandchildren and grandparents…  With a Video call on a weekly or monthly timeframe with children who are in the span of story-time ages, it could be an incredible opportunity for a grandparent to tell a story of their own childhood – or to read a chapter or two of a favorite classic – on a regular basis.  Instead of a parent taking on the role every day of the week, the sense of family could be enlarged and enriched if a grandparent were to chime in by phone or zoom with a story-telling role.  It could be the most important way you leave a personal legacy in their minds!

Sending care packages is also incredibly fun in a day and age where children do not normally receive mail… it could be as simple as a letter with conversation prompting a reply, or it could include something as personal as a pressed flower from the yard or a feather or leaf with a note leading to a story.. of course it could also be a local treat from the town where you live if you want to move up from an envelope to a more appropriate box or container to mail it.  Grandparents are in a category of their own, and some children these days may wish fervently that they had a relationship with their grandparents more often than just on holidays.
