Personally I find hilarious comfort in reading this brief commentary HERE about the struggle behind identifying as a Senior. What’s in a name? Why do we recoil at the thought of identifying as a Senior in our later years vs the great longing many of us had in high school to finally be a Senior? That was a big deal then.. and even in the corporate world it’s a great achievement to become the Senior Vice President. However, it seems that many of us would rather not get the senior citizen discount if that means we are lumped into that category of aging people. Perhaps it is all a marketing problem that could be cured if more advertisers and marketers presented Seniors as full of life and wisdom…
It helps me realize that 60+ is the perfect time to truly nail down the legacy checklist for your family: from brushing off & updating the will, and working with my parent(s) on recording old stories from their childhood in their own voice to share years later with my grandchildren – as you previously read HERE and HERE, along with getting a complete physical and educating myself on what to expect next.. the list goes on but summer is a good time to make that list and begin to tackle some of those now vs waiting until the energy is directed elsewhere.
Enjoy your summer and make those plans. And while you’re at it, don’t think twice about accepting any and all Senior discounts when you’re out and about!
